Yes, the methodology above is back-of-the-napkin type stuff and ignroes the context of his increased minutes. In all likelyhood Frank pulls Drummond when he"s not playing well. But the flipside of that is that if he"s pulled early then he doesn"t have any chance to produce later in the game and regress to the mean . By the logic suggested in the replies, every player would be pulled if they miss their first shot. At that point, they"re 0-1 and obviously aren"t playing well. Now we all realize that"s ridiculous when generalized, but somehow it"s ok when only applied to one player.The corollary is that in games when he played few minutes, good or bad, his production fluctuates wildly. But when he gets consistent minutes, his production fluctuates far less. Nevermind that it"s positive production, but the axiom is that you need consistent minutes and consistent rotations to get consistent production. If Drummond never knows when he"s going to be in the game or for how long, how is he supposed to get into rhythm? How is he supposed to know if he should conserve energy or go all out? How is he even supposed to know the tendencies of the teammates he"s on the floor with? Big men are incredibly dependent on guards getting them the ball in scoring position, and no one"s going to know where to get Drummond the ball if they don"t play with him regularly. This is not NBA2k13, you can"t simply plug and play players and not expect a drop off. WoW suggests a very simple approach to winning games: play your best players as much as possible. Good games or bad, overall Andre Drummond is the best player on that team. The player ahead of him is not playing as well, regardless of whether he played well in previous years. So move Monroe to PF and play Drummond more. Monroe will see the added benefit of not being the primary post defender, and of the attention Drummond will draw on offense. Monroe"s production is slightly above average for a PF anyway. And you"re going to have to see if they can coexist sooner or later.
